What makes the museum an interesting place to visit is the fact that it combines local history with world culture and also has an element of natural history. Right from what people wear to dinosaur bones, the museum gives you an insight into the world in general. At the museum, 'The streets of old Milwaukee' will take you back to what Milwaukee was like in the 1800s. The buildings and the cobblestone street add to the old world charm. The butterfly garden has hundreds of butterflies and if you are lucky, one may come and perch on your finger. The Rainforest section replicates the Costa Rican rainforest. The second storey lets you see the tops of the trees, making it a fun experience.
A section dedicated to Wisconsin Archaeology and Wisconsin Woodlands gives a feel of the Wisconsin wilderness. The museum also has the largest planetarium in the state.
