Milwaukee Shakespeare

A visit to Milwaukee, the largest city of the U.S. state of Wisconsin would surely take you to the doors of the Milwaukee Shakespeare Company which had once prided itself on staging one of the best performances. The Company, started in March 2000, had to shut down in the year 2008, due to dearth of funds, so far provided by the Argosy Foundation.

However, in the course of Milwaukee travel one cannot forget the brilliant performances put up by the artists at the Milwaukee Shakespeare in the years commencing from 2000 to 2006. The theatricals sought to bring about a new genre in the Milwaukee area by introducing the Bard's work as the basis of drama of all sorts. The first play to be staged was Shakespeare's gruesome tragedy, "Macbeth".

It was followed by a number of famous plays by the great playwright. These performances were held at the Peck School of Art till 2006, after which the base was shifted to the 99 Studio Theatre Centre.

The Company had just begun its journey of success into yet another year, with the staging of "The Love's Labor Lost" as the first performance of 2008, when it was hit by a sudden misfortune. In October, the same year, the Argosy Foundation, stepped back and declared its inability to provide for the Company any further. This meant a gigantic blow not only to the Company, but also to the several artists for whom this theatre was the source of earning their bread and butter.

Today on your Milwaukee travel, you may be unable to experience the vivacity of this once glorious theatre on which fate played a decisive role. But you can always relive those memories from the words of the individuals who have been fortunate enough to get a glimpse of the Bard's plays until its curtains descended.
