The Milwaukee Theater has a rich history. On October 14, 1912, Theodore Roosevelt, who was former president and then a presidential candidate, delivered a speech here. This was soon after a failed assassination attempt that left him with a bullet injury in his chest. Gilpatrick Hotel which is opposite to the auditorium was where John Schrank tried to shoot him from. Theodore Roosevelt left for the hospital only after he finished delivering his speech.
The Milwaukee Theater is located at 500 W. Kilbourn Avenue, near the corner of 6th and Kilbourn. The Regular Box-office hours are 10:00am to 5:00 pm; Monday to Friday. The summer hours from Memorial Day to Labour Day are 10:00am to 2:00 pm.
With a capacity to seat 4,086 people the theater has two-tiers of sloped seating, built to ensure better sightlines, along with comfort and luxury. With the use of strategic house lighting and specially designed screens the theater can be adjusted to seat 2,500 people for a more intimate gathering.
This is done by removing sections 1 and 5 at all seating levels, including the lower and upper side boxes. Special care has been taken to provide wheelchair compatible seating platforms.
